Merle Luhaäär-Avril is a multi-disciplinary experimental artist who currently lives and works in Estonia. Merle has graduated from Royal College of Art (London, UK) with an MA in Fine Arts in 2019 and prior to that she received her BA in Fine Arts from Kingston University London. Her practice is underpinned by an interest in the relationships between individual and society, micro- and macrocosm and relativity of reality. These themes are explored through a variety of mediums: painting, print, photography, installation and sculpture, textile design, and moving image. Merle has exhibited her works in Dubai, Barcelona, London, Venice, Zurich, and Basel. This summer 2021 she presented a major solo art show Somnum Exterreri (Nightmare) in her hometown Tallinn (Estonia) and launched the first NFT of a physical artwork in Estonia.
Merle Luhaäär: "I’d call my style pop-surrealist. My inspiration comes from both styles - surrealism and pop art. I am working with popular culture and my artworks are about everyday life and desires. They are always symbolist, often the element of nature is merging with popular culture and the viewers can recognise themselves in my metaphoric world."
At World Art Dubai 2022 Merle is presenting her new painting series “THE BOUTIQUE”, where the glamour of pop culture with its luxury brands like Chanel, Gucci and Louis Vuitton is merged with the gracious beauty of nature and wilderness.
