Painted on tea stained water color paper this is the only composition that holds the subject in the black frame taken from the measurements of a Mughal miniature. The bird is trapped in this frame, she cannot reach the garden of heaven that is outside the frame and thus the frame has been consciously painted black. the bird itself is in pain because outside the confines there exists a beautiful garden or Jannat that she cannot yet reach. This painting was one of the first compositions of the series.
