Art Main Image: HK Bar Scene Filipp Jenikae (b. 1987) is a German artist working and living between Münster, Germany, and New York. Coming from family of art lovers, his mother was an art teacher and his sister studied history of arts. Despite this, Jenikae studied law and later political science at the UAB Barcelona, before studying business administration in the Netherlands. It was later in his life when he discovered his passion for art, following the end of his dream to play professional basketball due to injuries. At the time he was living in Berlin, the perfect environment for his creative pursuits. This led him to study at the University of the Arts in Berlin, where he obtained a degree in visual arts. As an artist, Jenikae has focused on creating multidimensional works that explore the relationship between the individual and their environment. He uses a variety of media in his work, including photography, sculpture, video, and installation, but paints mainly with acrylics on canvas. His works document popular culture, including the achievements of women, musicians, and sportsmen. A fascination with the nuances of the societies he has lived in also influences his paintings, with his colours infusing a sense of whimsy and yet truly depicting the energy of the vibrant social scenes across popular cities and natural landscapes that he paints. Jenikae's work is influenced by nature, architecture and technology, as well as questions of identity and perception. His main influences include: Henry Taylor, Jonas Wood, Nina Chanel Abney, Picasso, Matisse, Gauguin, George Grosz, David Hockney, and Faith Ringgold, and references from their work are evident in his paintings. Jenikae has participated in numerous exhibitions in Germany and abroad, notably in France, Italy, and Australia. His works are often described as both provocative and enigmatic, inviting the viewer to reflect on themes such as culture, memory, and reality.
