Join Younes Laassouli at WAD 2023

Proud Moroccan Younes began his art journey in 2011, creating simple pieces on his computer. However, it wasn't until 2018 that he began to paint more frequently, using his smartphone. This caught the attention of friends, who encouraged him to start painting on canvas and consider exhibiting.

In 2020, the pandemic prompted him to purchase the necessary materials to begin painting on canvas. His works have primarily focused on celebrities, where he adheres to traditional techniques, and monsters, where he is free to explore and create his own rules.

As well as being an artist, Younes has worked in a variety of industries and service firms, starting as a quality manager and then transitioning to certification audits. In 2016, he founded my own consultancy firm, where he has been helping companies establish and certify their management systems, and he holds a Master's degree in Quality Management Systems.

We asked Younes, where does he find inspiration?

I am often inspired by the power of facial expressions and colours to connect us with our deepest selves. When we look at someone's face, we can often see their emotions and thoughts written in their features. Similarly, the use of colours can evoke certain feelings and moods in the viewer.

I believe that by focusing on these elements in my work, I can create paintings that resonate with people on a deeper level. Whether it's the intensity of a gaze, the softness of a smile, or the vibrancy of a hue, I aim to use facial expressions and colours to create a connection with the viewer and facilitate a sense of self-reflection and introspection.

Share three facts about your art

My art is honest. I strive to create work that is authentic and true to my own experiences and emotions. I believe that honesty is an important quality in art, as it allows the viewer to connect with the work on a deeper level and understand the artist's message or perspective.

My art is made with love. I pour my heart and soul into each piece I create, and I believe that this love and passion is evident in the final product. I believe that art should be created with a sense of joy and purpose, and I hope that my love for what I do shines through in my work.

My art seeks connection. As mentioned earlier, I believe that art has the power to connect people with their deepest selves and facilitate self-reflection and introspection. I aim to create work that encourages this kind of connection and inspires the viewer to think about their own experiences and emotions in a new way.

What does your artwork represent?

In the realm of the visible, my artwork often represents portraits and facial expressions. I am drawn to the human face and find it to be a rich source of inspiration for my art. I enjoy exploring the nuances of human expression and capturing the emotions and thoughts that are conveyed through the face.

But deep inside, my artwork represents much more than just what is visible on the surface. It represents my dreams, my hard moments, and my deepest feelings. I believe that art has the power to express the intangible and the unconscious, and I try to channel these elements into my work. My art reflects my own inner world, and I hope that it can provide a glimpse into the deeper aspects of my being for the viewer.

What’s the key thing we should know about your art?

I believe that one thing people should know about me or my art is that I am constantly striving to push the boundaries of my creativity and explore new ideas. I have a deep love for the arts and am always seeking to expand my knowledge and skills in order to create work that is meaningful and impactful.

What can we expect from your stand at WAD?

I am extremely excited to have the chance to share my ideas and artistic process with visitors at World Art Dubai. I believe that art is meant to be shared and experienced, and I am looking forward to engaging with others and discussing my work. This event will also be a wonderful opportunity for me to showcase my ‘Moroccan Legends’ series, which I created with love for my country and its people in 2022.
